Your General Education Requirements

Your General education requirements are determined by your matriculation start date. A matriculated student is someone who has been accepted into the University and is enrolled in a credit-bearing degree, certificate, or microcredential program. General education requirements may differ for students if AP, IB, CLEP, or transfer credit is awarded.

  • For students who first matriculated at Buffalo State University prior to the summer of 2023,  your general education program is known as Intellectual Foundations.
  • For students who matriculate at Buffalo State University on or after summer 2023, your general education program is known as General Education 2023 (GE 23).

Your Academic Roadmap

Your Academic Roadmap is an outline of courses, specific to your major, that you should be taking each semester. Please make sure you review your Academic Roadmap and your Degree Works before your scheduled appointment with your Professional Academic Advisor and or Major Faculty Advisor.

Your Degree Works is an online degree auditing tool which enables you to review and monitor academic progress leading towards graduation. It organizes academic coursework into sections to help easily identify courses and requirements that you have completed and what requirements are still needed to complete your degree of at least 120 credits. You should review your Degree Works often! Your advisor will put academic advisement notes at the very bottom of your Degree Works. Please be sure to read these important notes.
